Kansas has close to 300 unified school districts, from large urban districts to small rural ones. Almost all of them now run 1:1 student device programs, which means a cohort of Chromebooks or laptops reaches end of life every few years, alongside staff laptops, projectors, interactive panels, lab desktops and network gear. Storage closets fill up fast, and the equipment often sits for months because nobody has a clear plan for it.
eWaste.Pro gives districts that plan. We collect from a central warehouse or from individual buildings, inventory every device by serial number, protect student and staff data, and return value on devices that can be resold.
Student data protection
Student information is protected by FERPA and by Kansas student data privacy law, and districts are expected to dispose of devices in a way that keeps that data safe. Chromebooks are deprovisioned and reset, and laptops and desktops with drives are erased to the NIST 800-88 standard. Drives that fail erasure are shredded in our in-house HSM HDS 150 shredder. Your report lists each serial number, so you can close out the assets in your inventory system and answer any question from your board or auditors.
Buyback options
Many retired school devices still work. When they can be refurbished and resold, you choose how to receive value: an upfront buy, or 70% of total sales after resale. Both are documented, which matters for districts that have to account for surplus property through their board. We can provide what you need for a surplus resolution or a bid file.
What we collect from schools
- Chromebooks, laptops, tablets and charging carts
- Lab and library desktops, monitors and keyboards
- Projectors, document cameras and interactive displays
- Servers, switches, wireless access points and UPS batteries
- Printers, copiers and old AV equipment
Procurement made simple
We work with technology directors, business managers and purchasing offices, and we respond to quotes and bids. Our certifications include R2v3, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and we can send certificates, insurance and sample reports for your vendor file. Summer is the busiest refresh season, so call early to reserve a pickup window.
We serve districts across the state, including the Wichita, Topeka, Lawrence, Olathe, Kansas City, Kansas and Johnson County areas. See the Kansas home page for the full list.
Timing your district refresh
The best time to plan a refresh pickup is before the last day of school. If we know the device count and collection points by spring, we can reserve a summer window, bring carts or gaylords for each building, and finish collection before staff return. Districts that collect devices at year-end turn-in can hand them straight to us, which saves storage space and gets value back while the devices are still current.
Small districts can combine with nearby districts on a shared route, which makes it practical to collect even a few hundred devices. Tell us your timeline and we will build the plan around it.
What districts receive
Every district pickup ends with a report that technology and business offices can both use. It lists each device by serial number and asset tag, the data sanitization method, and whether the device was reused or recycled. You also receive a certificate of recycling and a certificate of data destruction. Those records support board surplus resolutions, E-rate equipment disposal records where they apply, and student data privacy reviews.
